Rapid City, South Dakota is home to just three tanning salons, and Action Tanning has quickly become the hottest spot on the block. Julie Dieter and her husband, owners of the salon, fell in love with the city while visiting and pretty much immediately knew that they wanted to move and open a business there. After finding the perfect strip mall location that sees an average of 10,380 passing cars daily, the couple put all of their money into leasing the location and opening their dream tanning salon. With over 30 years of management and customer service experience, Action Tanning is dedicated to providing the very best tanning experience to every guest.
The goal has always been to set Action Tanning apart from existing salons, creating a place where guests were relaxed and well informed on the products and services they were receiving. The standard to be the best salon in Rapid City has been set high by Action Tanning, and decided to expand their tanning line, they have no plan on slowing down any time soon.
Action Tanning offers teeth whitening, red light, air brush tanning, and our brand new tanning beds. They pride themselves on being highly knowledgeable on the products they carry, such as their wide selection of Devoted Creations lotions and moisturizers to match a variety of skin types.
Q: When did you decide to start a tanning salon?
“We opened our tanning salon November 7th 2016”
Q: How did you find out about ProSun?
“We researched and we didn’t want the same beds that the “other” tanning salons have. We wanted to be the best!”
Q: Which product(s) did you purchase from ProSun?
“We have 3 Onyx beds, a Luxura X5, a Luxura X7, a Luxura V6, and a Red Light RenuvaSkin 3200.”

Q: What appealed to you most about our products?
“No other salon in town has your beds, and we didn’t want to have the same beds that they have. Also, ProSun is more of a traditional company. They are the best. They have a lasting classic look. ProSun is family owned and so are we!
People that want to tan, well, they just want to go tan. I didn’t want anything so crazy and expensive that I couldn’t charge my clients a reasonable price, and we wanted as many beds as our money could get.”
Q: What specific features do you and/or your customers like most about our equipment?
“Oh man! That is a loaded question.
Even the Onyx is a great bed, especially for clients new to tanning.
The X5 is a nice comfortable bed and so quiet.
V6 is roomy so NO LINES!
And what can you say about the X7? Not enough – it is a fantastically HOT bed!
The Renuvaskin is awesome, everyone LOVES the Red Light!”
My customers like how quiet the beds are, because the other salons have turbo beds which are really loud, and these are pretty quiet.”
Q: How has our equipment benefit you and/or your business?
“Everyone loves the beds, I get nothing but compliments on them. Because we are the only Salon in Rapid City to have these beds, the minute someone sees them, we have set ourselves apart from the rest. We are the best because of the quality of these beds. I haven’t had anyone come in and complain, they’ve been great for us. Our most popular bed is the Onyx.”
Q: Were there any obstacles or concerns you had prior to purchasing our equipment?
“I did a lot of research before buying, and had no concerns after speaking with Susan Burns in sales. The only thing was, with the beds not being in any salons around here, there was nowhere to see the beds in person, so I was purchasing them without seeing them first. This is also the first business we’ve owned which has its obstacles on its own, and I had never tanned in a tanning bed. The first bed I tanned in was one of our Onyx beds and I knew they were the best.”
Q: Would you recommend our products and services to other businesses?
“Yes I would. As long as they are not in my city!”
Q: Are your customers typically men or women?
“50/50”
Q: What do you charge per use? per month?
“34.99 onyx, 79.99 X5, 79.99 V6, 84.99 X7”

Q: What are your total tanning sessions per month?
“We are still growing! Last year we averaged 300 tans per month, but this year we have tripled that number to about 900 per month average!”
Q: How do you bring in new customers?
“We use Facebook, local radio, Local coupon books, & word of mouth.”
Q: Was your location designed specifically for tanning equipment use?
“Yes!”
“The 5 different beds that we have purchased for our salon have been fantastic. We are the only salon with the ProSun beds in and around Rapid City, SD. That alone sets apart from the other salons as our beds we feel are top of the line, sleek and sexy! We love to watch our clients faces smile that huge smile that says : Finally! I am getting what I paid for at a Tanning Salon! Great beds at a great price! Action Tanning LOVES them ALL. We are looking forward to purchasing the hydro massage bed soon.”
