There are two primary types of spray tanning equipment:

Handheld Systems – these are handheld spray guns that require an operator to apply the tan
- Pros – Cheaper capital outlay $3,500 for handheld starter set including backdrop.
- Cons – Higher per tan cost due to having to pay an operator. Skill of the operator is important in order to create an even looking tan. More mess to cleanup due to overspray. Some clients don’t feel comfortable having someone else see and spray their body close up.
Booths
- Pros – No operator required works directly with T-Max timer system. Less cleanup. More even tan.
- Cons – Higher capital outlay.

REASONS FOR OFFERING SPRAY TANNING

By offering spray tanning at your business you will acquire a different group of customers that are not interested in UV Tanning. BUYING NEW VERSUS USED

There are two primary types of spray tanning equipment:

Handheld – we never recommend buying used handhelds as you are generally buying someone else’s problems. Handhelds need to be well maintained to function properly. It’s not to say that you can’t find a good used spray gun, but our experience has been that if you are going to buy a handheld we recommend you buy new.
Booths – in our experience, we think that buying a used spray tanning booth is a great deal if you can find one. Spray booths generally last forever as long as you take care of them. Used spray booths can save you $15,000 over the price of a new spray booth which results in a much higher return on investment. See “Show Me the Money” below.

ROOM REQUIREMENTS

The optimal room size would be 7′ x 8′ x 8′ with water supply and drain in the room for use and ideal cleaning. Booths may required 230V or 120V depending on the model available, handheld spray guns only need a 110v outlet in the room.
